Phobias

How to overcome a phobia

Many people consult Jonathan about a wide variety of phobias including fear of various animals, fear of heights, fear of flying, fear of enclosed spaces, fear of needles, fear of blood etc. A phobia is often described as an irrational fear. These phobias are usually triggered by a past event and this phobia needs to be addressed in order to help the person overcome it.

Jonathan would usually use a phobia cure, which is often done in hypnosis taking the person back to the original cause of the phobia thus helping the person to make a change at an unconscious level assisting the person to change the coding of the information so that the person is not automatically triggered
in the same way.

He would then do a visualization with the person helping the person to see themselves in the situation with the resources that they need making the client a tape and also teaching the client self hypnosis. He would then task a person to gradually introduce the situation back into their lives-if for example there is a fear of an escalator he would suggest going on an escalator but not in large crowds initially.
